Photo Printers

Photo printers have higher color standards than your average printer, and they also take thicker paper. This is a necessity because in order to get photographic quality out of a print, you’ll need to use photo paper. If you use regular paper, the amount of ink put out in a photo quality print will cause the paper to bleed. Ordinary paper also lacks the glossy finish that photos have.

One of the biggest differences between photo printers and regular ones is in the ink. A photo printer will often have additional colors in its ink repertoire to facilitate a broader range of vivid printing colors. For example a photo printer might have light black or light magenta cartridges.

There is some confusion today over what exactly allows a model to belong to the group photo printers. This is because there is no standard to which a printer must adhere to be considered photo quality. This has led to many printers that don’t have any quality upgrades being marketed as photo printers. So when you’re in the market for one, be sure that what you get is really the printer you think it is.
